Biography
Diane is an Associate Director at OPEN - now part of SLR. She is a Chartered Architect and Urban Designer with over 25 years of experience on a broad range of public and private projects of different scales and complexities from small grass roots architectural projects to the development of large historic estates of significant cultural importance. Prior to her joining OPEN in 2009 she worked at AECOM Design + Planning (formerly EDAW), in private architectural practice and for the Edinburgh Community Design Service.
Diane’s experience in the design and delivery of buildings combined with her strength in masterplanning allows her to take on a diverse range of work and her role at OPEN is generally focussed on dealing with complex urban design projects from a strategic level through to detail. She is currently involved in several large-scale masterplans across the country ranging from new settlement design to adapting house-types and creating new products for developers, producing bespoke solutions for sensitive sites such as the Fasque House Estate and Countesswells in Aberdeen.
With a background in social and economic regeneration projects, she understands the benefits of working with local communities and the ability of good, thoughtful design to improve quality of life within practical and commercial constraints. She has a passion for design which works well within its context, simplicity often belying complexity and her work has included the delivery of Design Awareness training to local authorities throughout Scotland.
