Aurizon Landholder Compensation Framework

Challenge

Aurizon is Australia’s largest rail freight operator, moving coal, iron ore, agricultural freight and more across the nation. Aurizon were required to access their rail corridor over private land. They sought expertise in Stakeholder Engagement and Social Risk Assessment to formalise land access and compensation for landholders relating to the impacts of access.

Solution

Our Social Performance team developed a tailored framework for successful landholder engagement. This included a legitimate, transparent and standardised approach to landholder compensation that builds Aurizon’s credibility and trust. We determined, tested and evaluated the factors for compensation and entitlements based on land value/impact and parameters for entering and using private land.

Impact

The framework is essential for upholding Aurizon’s Social License to Operate, with the final documents aligning to Aurizon’s values and existing standards and commitments.
