Relocation of C&D waste recycling facility

Client Name
Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Limited
Location
Cardiff Docks, UK

Challenge

Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Limited operated a construction and demolition waste recycling facility on a site within Cardiff Docks. The landowner needed the facility to relocate to another site within the Docks and the relocation required a planning permission and a permit from Natural Resources Wales (NRW).

Solution

The lack of connection to a sewer meant that SLR needed to work closely with the client to develop an innovative solution to surface water management, which included the use of SuDS planters, to collect rainwater from the office roof.

The solution will also provide an element of vegetation at the site, which helps to meet the SAB requirement for water management schemes to enhance biodiversity.

Impact

SLR secured the planning permission and permit and SLR hydrologists also secured a surface water drainage scheme for the site, which required an application to the SuDS Approval Body (SAB).
