Biography

Reid is a Marine Ecologist based in our Nelson office with over 16 years of experience in environmental consulting across offshore, coastal, estuarine and freshwater environments in New Zealand and Australia, including for aquaculture, offshore oil and gas exploration, port/harbour developments, estuary health assessments, industrial discharge/outfall monitoring, and state-of-the-environment monitoring.

Reid specialises in the planning, organising and completion of environmental monitoring surveys in estuarine, inshore and offshore environments, and preparing environmental technical reports for clients. He is passionate about planning, organising and completing often complex field operations, particularly those involving benthic surveys and subtidal assessments with the SLR Scientific Dive Team and the SLR Offshore Monitoring team. Reid is also SLR’s Diving Safety Officer overseeing safe scientific diving operations, training and reporting to the requirements of Scientific Diving New Zealand.

Reid often works with teams of scientists and/or contractors from many different disciplines and companies to complete environmental surveys in a range of environments, ensuring work scopes are completed safely and on time/budget.

Reid has also prepared and presented expert witness evidence at council and Environmental Protection Authority hearings and assisted with the preparation of information and evidence for Environment Court and EPA Board of Inquiry Hearings.
