Bin sizing and pricing advice for Queensland Councils

Challenge

Several councils in Queensland, led by Fraser Coast Regional Council were considering their approach to bin pricing, and needed to understand the impact of variable pricing, and experiences from other jurisdictions in Australia and across the globe.

Solution

SLR were engaged as part of the consultancy team to provide technical advice around refuse collection vehicle capabilities and needs, associated with changing bin sizing. We also provided several detailed case studies from Europe associated with varying schemes currently in operation, and feedback on varying bin sizing strategies in operation globally.

Impact

Our team presented a clear framework for Councils to put a strategy in place around bin sizing and pricing. We also identified a series of recommended behavior change and enforcement strategies to deploy to help drive success of the strategy.
