I-84 NEPA environmental assessment & CEPA EIE
- Client Name
- Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT)
- Location
- Connecticut, USA
Challenge
SLR was retained by the Connecticut Department of Transportation to undertake an Environmental Assessment under the National Environmental Policy Act, as well as a joint Environmental Impact Evaluation under the Connecticut Environmental Policy Act. This was to evaluate the environmental impacts related to improvements along the I-84 corridor from Exits 3 to 8 in Danbury and Bethel.
Solution
Given the expanse of the project area and the diversity of the communities that the interstate serves, a great deal of emphasis has been placed on public involvement, including outreach to disadvantaged and minority communities. The CEPA/NEPA team will support the design team throughout the public engagement process properly documenting interaction with stakeholders and the general public.
Impact
SLR coordinated noise and air modelling and related field studies, providing interface between the design team’s traffic lead and subconsultants. The team also conducted wetland delineation and mapping for the entire 8-mile corridor and furnished data sets to design team for incorporation into project base mapping. Additionally, SLR will assist the team to review interstate mainline, ramp and local road design improvement alternatives for the project.
