Challenge

Carpentaria Gold Pty Ltd (CG) plans to expand its existing open cut mine located at Ravenswood in north Queensland.

A rehabilitation and decommissioning strategy was required which saw our team assist on the following:

  • Soil and Land Resource Assessment
  • Conducted a Baseline Soil Survey, including a review of existing published information on geology, land systems and previous soil surveys covering the neighbouring area.
  • Prepared a Land Resource Assessment Impact on soil resources including topsoil and subsoil balance, potential erosion rates and risk ratings for various disturbance levels and PAF impacts.
  • Impact assessment of land capability based on post mining landforms, available materials for rehabilitation and rehabilitation techniques.

Our team prepared a technical report for the proposed Rehabilitation and Decommissioning of the site.

The report included the following:

  • Legislative context for rehabilitation;
  • Existing environment;
  • Rehabilitation risk assessment;
  • Final land use goals;
  • Revegetation species selection;
  • Rehabilitation methods, opportunities and constraints;
  • Conceptual closure objectives and indicators;
  • Preliminary completion criteria.
