Challenge
Vectos Microsim - an SLR company - was commissioned by Warwickshire County Council and Stratford District Council to prepare a report analysing model outputs to inform the strategic impact assessment of a series of housing and employment developments in and around Stratford-upon-Avon.
Solution
The initial testing was undertaken within the Stratford-upon-Avon Wide Area (SUAWA) model followed by detailed testing at two key locations to the south east of the town centre.
Impact
Our work built upon previous stages of the core strategic transport assessment work. It relied upon the existing SuAWA model and assessed, incrementally, the impact of housing and employment schemes in and around Stratford Town Centre as well as options for allocating between 800 and 3,500 houses on the periphery of Stratford-upon-Avon alongside strategic infrastructure such as an Eastern or Western Relief Road. The second stage delved deeper into proposals for the two identified areas, using Paramics models to understand the likely outcomes of the proposals.
Strategic analysis of the data identified potential issues in the town centre and routes in to the town from south of the river which where areas identified as likely to benefit from additional interventions. In the two specific areas examined in more detail, the models enabled a series of assessments to be undertaken, allowing more detailed scheme proposals to be identified and a report produced for submission as part of the core strategy evidence base, which identified the best form of junction proposals for these areas.
