Twin Waters flood study

Client Name
Stocklands Developments Pty Ltd
Location
Twin Waters, QLD, Australia

Challenge

Twin Waters is a residential subdivision in Pacific Paradise Queensland. The existing site is subject to flooding from the Maroochy River catchment, so SLR carried out a flood study to ensure that the proposed development did not cause an adverse impact on flooding in the vicinity of the site.

Solution

The study considered a range of events as well as a Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) and the influence of climate change on the design event to allow for the anticipated increases in rainfall intensity and sea level to the year 2100. The modelling also considered coincident sinusoidal storm tide.

Impact

The results showed that proposed development did not cause an adverse impact on flood levels and provided a significant net benefit in terms of flooding. A safety refuge for the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) event was also proposed to be constructed within the site and protected from a range of scour conditions.
