- Client Name
- Multiplex
- Location
- Sydney, Australia
Challenge
In 2016, the Premier of New South Wales announced a new fish market in Blackwattle Bay, which is adjacent to the existing Sydney Fish Market. The new contemporary urban design fish market, provides a unique experience for visitors as well as auction and wholesale facilities. The new development will include the creation of a waterfront promenade to improve the public domain. Consultancy services were required to minimise the impact of the development and to support the aim to achieve design excellence, functional performance and environmental sustainability.
The project needed to meet ecologically sustainable development requirements and its key waste minimisation focus area was to manage a range of waste streams including food, fish offal, cardboard, expanded polystyrene, recyclable containers, oil, soft plastics, drums, scrap metal, pallets and public place.
Solution
SLR was engaged to provide specialist waste advice to contractor Multiplex during the construction of the New Sydney Fish Markets.
Our team leveraged their extensive experience and expertise to update and complete an operational waste management plan. The waste management plan incorporates new waste generation data provided by Sydney Fish Markets and updates and provides details of the types and locations of waste equipment. The plan has been prepared to meet Green Star requirements.
In addition, the project involved reviewing previous construction waste management plans, by checking waste generation estimates, City of Sydney’s requirements, and providing advice as required.
Impact
By preparing the waste management plan for the project, we are helping our client to meet ecologically sustainable development requirements and key waste minimisation focus area to manage a range of waste management streams.
