Challenge

Western Power (then trading as Electricity Networks Corporation) was seeking to identify reduction in its energy usage in line with sustainability and commercial drivers.

The main objective of the study proposal was to undertake energy and lighting audits of the site which is part of the Perth International Airport was to:

  • Identify sources of energy to the site, the amount of energy supplied, and what the energy is used for Identify areas where savings may be made
  • Recommend measures to be taken, and provide a statement of costs and potential savings

Solution

SLR undertook the following works:

Audits

SLR’s Environmental Sustainable Development (ESD) team undertook Level 2 Energy and Lighting Audits and related deliverables consistent with AS/NZS 3598 for the nominated facilities.

Tariffs

SLR carried out a review of energy tariffs relevant to the sites of interest.

Impact

On the basis of the above inputs, SLR put forward recommendations for improvements in energy consumption including the required capital investment, projected savings and payback periods.

The tariff-related recommendations led to savings in the first year post-study of over $30k.
