Scottish and Southern Energy - electrical substations

Client Name
Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE)
Location
Highlands, Scotland

Challenge

SLR is retained on a civil engineering framework agreement with Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) to support the construction of electrical substations and cable routes. This applies to both above and below ground cable routes, north of Perth, Scotland.

Solution

GIS is used to map known constraints, enabling potential substation locations to be identified. Field and desk studies are then undertaken to refine the potential substation sites and cable routes.

These field studies typically include peat depth probing, geological site investigation, transport studies, flood risk assessments and initial site design.

Impact

Further to the preferred substation site being selected, SLR have managed site investigations, including intrusive ground investigations and the preparation of civil and structural engineering designs.
